Who Qualifies?

Hospice of Pamlico County is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) provider of end-of-life care and support services for patients, their families and caregivers. Patients, of any age, who are facing a life-limiting illness may qualify for specialized medical, emotional and spiritual care through our services.

 

Our Hospice team will come to you, wherever you call home. Under the direction of a primary physician, our team develops a comprehensive plan to best provide comfort and emotional support for patients and their families. In addition to scheduled visits, our local staff is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Hospice is for patients suffering from a life-limiting illness. When a doctor determines a life expectancy of six months or less, a patient or family member may request hospice care.  There is no absolute criteria to qualify for hospice care.

 

Examples of illnesses clients face are cancer, heart, lung, liver, kidney and Parkinson's diseases, or end-stage Alzheimer's. Services are not limited to these illnesses.

Who Pays?
 

  • Medicare -  Medicare Part A includes a hospice benefit that pays 100 percent of allowed charges established by Medicare      each year.

  • Medicaid - Medicaid pays 100 percent of allowed amount.

  • Private Health Insurance - Each plan has benefits that can vary. Hospice of Pamlico County will assist patients and families in determining specific benefits to cover charges.

  • Uncompensated Care - If a patient's care needs exceed available coverage, or the patient is uninsured,  Hospice of Pamlico County will provide financial assistance to insure that everyone has access to care.  Your donations to the Thrift Store provides the support to the uninsured citizens of Pamlico County. 

 Hospice of Pamlico County, Inc. will file necessary paperwork.

 

There is NO CHARGE to our clients.
